How to read the ratings
Ten slanted segments make each indicator easy to compare. Five bars are calculated from a single stat: Combat = stock pilot burst DPS; Transport = general cargo SCU; Defense = shield HP; Maneuverability = average unboosted pitch/yaw; Speed = unboosted SCM speed. The largest value among these seven ships fills ten segments. Other values scale proportionally and round to whole segments (at least one for a positive value). Filtering does not change the scores.
Versatility is our editorial assessment of how many activities the ship can support. It is explained on each card. Defense is not a survival prediction; combat does not include missile damage or crewed turrets. A specialist can score low in general-purpose categories and still excel at its own profession.

A useful first ship if you have not settled on a career. Players in the starter discussion often favour the Aurora Mk II as a low-commitment way to learn the game, while others prefer the Cutter’s practical cabin. Its modules are the important distinction: they can broaden its role, but the base ship should not be mistaken for every upgraded configuration at once.
Good fitA flexible starting platform with room to specialize later.
Keep in mindThe base cargo grid is only 2 SCU. Additional modules are a separate configuration.

Versatility 7/10: A generalist with a bed, small cargo grid and optional role modules. Base configuration rated.
The Cutter appeals to pilots who spend more time reaching ground missions and moving equipment than chasing dogfights. In the discussion, owners value its accessible interior and usefulness for small vehicles; that practical appeal matters more than its low gun output. It makes sense as a modest everyday runabout, provided you are comfortable leaving serious ship combat to something else.
Good fitPractical cabin and loading access for everyday utility.
Keep in mindLimited cargo volume and modest firepower; vehicle fit depends on the vehicle.

Versatility 7/10: Delivery, ground-mission transport and light vehicle utility, but limited combat.
The Titan is a natural comparison point when you want early ship combat without giving up a cargo bay. Players often recommend it for combining those two activities, although it still has the space limitations of a small starter. The stock gun output and speed support that mixed role. Choose it for practical capability rather than expecting the amenities of a larger live-in ship.
Good fitA strong mix of pilot weapons, speed and a usable cargo bay.
Keep in mindEight SCU suits small jobs; it is not a dedicated freighter or specialist fighter.

Versatility 8/10: Combines combat, small cargo jobs, a bed and independent cockpit access.
The Golem is for a player who already wants to mine. General starter discussions caution that industrial ships narrow the activities you can try with your first purchase; that is the key tradeoff here. Its 32 SCU is ore storage, not a general cargo hold. A low transport or versatility indicator therefore does not mean it is bad at its intended job: it is a focused tool for learning mining.
Good fitA dedicated entry into ship-based mining with ore storage.
Keep in mindOre containers cannot be treated as a 32 SCU freight bay.

Versatility 2/10: Mining-focused configuration with no general cargo grid.
The Salvation makes sense when salvaging is the activity you want to learn first. Owners also point out that its small cargo grid can handle some light freight, giving it a use beyond salvage. That flexibility has limits: six SCU fills quickly, and the cockpit-focused layout is different from a starter with a walk-in cabin. Compare it for the career it opens, not for winning a general-purpose scorecard.
Good fitDedicated salvage equipment plus a small usable cargo grid.
Keep in mindLimited cargo space and no walk-in living area.

Versatility 4/10: Salvage is its main role; the six-SCU grid allows limited freight work.
The Intrepid divides opinion. Fans appreciate its interior and courier feel; critics compare its single pilot gun and split cargo layout with the Titan’s more utilitarian arrangement. Both perspectives are useful: this is a ship to consider if the experience of living out of it matters to you. For cargo, look beyond the total SCU figure and check the container sizes its individual bays can accept.
Good fitA well-appointed interior with cargo access for courier work.
Keep in mindSplit cargo bays and lower stock gun output than the Titan.

Versatility 6/10: Courier and general travel utility, with a cabin, but modest combat capability.
The Cutlass Black is the larger multi-role option in this selection. Players often mention it as a step up for trying several activities rather than simply replacing one small starter with another. Its cargo bay and crewed turret broaden what you can do, but it is also a bigger ship to handle. The pilot-gun indicator below excludes the turret, which needs another operator to contribute.
Good fitSubstantially more cargo and the option to bring a turret gunner.
Keep in mindLarger footprint and slower turning than the smaller agile starters.
